Silhouettes Style

When choosing a shape for you bridal gown, the silhouette should be one that is flattering to your figure. Finding the silhouette that suits your figure best comes down to trial and error, of trying different styles and seeing what suits your figure best. No matter what your build or figure you will ultimately find that several styles are most appropriate for you and bring out your best features. Below are descriptions of the five most common gown styles used for bridal gowns.

A-Line
The A-line style is perfect for brides looking for a slimming shape that can hide a few flaws. A-Line is the most figure-flattering silhouette featuring vertical seams flowing from the shoulders down to a flared skirt, creating a an "A" shape. This style suits most people, and is the most popular choice for wedding dresses.

Ball Gown

The Ball Gown silhouette is the traditional bridal gown style, which features a full bodice with natural waistline, well defined across and full skirted. The Ball Gown suits most body shapes and is ideal for drawing eyes to your face, collarbones and waist -- and hiding troublesome hips. This style of skirt is often combined with a fitted bodice and natural or dropped waistline, suiting a wide range of figures especially those with curves.

Empire

The Empire line dress is for brides who don't want a figure-hugging gown. The empire silhouette features a high waistline (directly under the bust) and a skirt that starts just below the cropped bodice. This style of dress suits a small-busted, slim figure, but can also be a good choice for pregnant brides, as the lack of waist means there's no constriction.

Mermaid
The mermaid silhouette is not a style that is suitable for every shape. The Mermaid silhouette features a narrow style that fits tightly to the body and a skirt that flares at the knee. This is probably one of the less comfortable styles available. This sexy silhouette is suited to brides who like to show off their curvy
shape.

Sheath
The Sheath is another body-fitting gown style, which is similar to the Mermaid style. The Sheath is a body-fitting gown with no defined waistline; similar to mermaid it does not flare at the knee. This style is comfortable to wear. Because it creates a clean, vertical line, it is particularly flattering to the short bride who wants to appear taller. The sleek sheath silhouette closely follows the line of the body. The slim profile closely follows the body's curves and looks flattering on tall, slim or petite brides.

Wedding Dresses - Trends for 2009 and 2010

Sleek Silhouettes
Slim is the silhouette of choice for the modern wedding dress - as sheaths, trumpets, and column wedding dresses ruled the runways. Don’t fret if you’ve always dreamed of donning a billowy ball gown, however, as this traditional style never goes out of style.

Colorful Details
Modern brides are experimenting with color to tie their ensembles into the color scheme. Adding a splash of color to the basic white gown remains popular through colorful sashes and appliqué details, or more dramatically through two-toned wedding gowns with a colored bodice against a white or off-white skirt.

High Hemlines
Not afraid to show a little leg, today’s brides are embracing the tea-length and mini shift dresses that have become de rigueur in nearly every wedding dress designer’s latest collections. The trend makes sense for destination weddings calling for laid back attire and brides opting to don a second dress for dancing the night away at the reception.

Tiered Skirts
Whether chiffon, tulle, organza, or even feathers – layers of fabric are the newest major detail designers are playing with to create soft, yet dramatic gowns. This flowing style is perfect for the bride who is a romantic at heart.

Floaty Fabrics

Dresses weighted down by heavy crepes, matte satins and silks are lightening up to fabrics like taffeta and organza. These airy fabrics are easy to layer and more comfortable for a gown worn for up to 10 hours. And for brides having a summer wedding, donning a lighter fabric will ensure they’re glowing – not sweaty and red-faced - on their wedding day.

This dress is not only gorgeous but it is quite fun too with the strip of overblown fabric corsages running around the bustline.
The empire line style has layers of floaty fabric and a waterfall-like back detailing which pools into a small train.
I think it would look fabulous at a summer wedding paired with a bouquet of huge vibrant peonies. (BridalWave Gallery)

One Shoulder

This asymmetrical look is a hot fashion trend that has crossed over into the bridal world to update the basic strapless gown. Carrying a simple, no fuss vibe, the one shoulder gown is a great option for a destination wedding. Bonus points for those blessed with toned limbs, as this neckline shows off the upper arms and shoulders.

but you can imagine how this one will look in at a wedding. Nice! (Bridal Galleria)

Practical Pockets

Having graced gowns for a few seasons, pockets remain hot in 2009. The style lends a casual vibe for relaxed events, and – perhaps best of all – it’s practical too, allowing brides to keep essentials like lip gloss or tissues on hand throughout the day.

Five signs your partner may have credit trouble

Five signs your partner may have credit trouble:

1. His/Her Salary Doesn't Support His/Her Spending.

Lucky you. Your partner is always springing for thoughtful gifts, fancy dinners and last-minute weekend getaways. But take a minute to consider whether his/her lifestyle matches income or if he/she is using plastic to fill the gap.

2. He/She Pays For Everything With Plastic.

Credit cards are accepted more places than ever. But if your partner is paying with credit, especially in places where purchases are small and cash is usually used -- such as coffee shops and taxis -- take note. He/she could be maximizing rewards points, but also could be short on cash; and if it's a credit card commonly associated with poor credit, beware.

3. He/She Uses More Cards Than A Vegas Black Jack Dealer.

The average American carries about four credit cards, but typically only uses about one or two. If your partner seems to have a lot of them and uses a different card on every occasion, it could be a sign he/she is near the limit on many cards.

4. He/She Makes Only the Minimum Payments and Continues To Charge.

It could be a sign that someone has a problem or an irresponsible outlook on spending.

5. He/She Hides His/Her Credit Activity.

Your relationship may have problems if your mate is sending credit-card bills to his/her work address, or if he/she is hiding purchases so you won't know he/she is excessively using the credit cards.

Wedding Financial Tips

Tips on managing the wedding, and the marriage and wedding finances. Marriage can be an expensive event - the ceremony and reception require the most attention.

Weddings are an extremely special occasion for the bride and groom-to-be. There are so many finite details which go into planning a wedding that make this event a big deal. When planning a wedding, the couple needs to consider financial aspects with regard to their big day. There are a few financial tips for the happy couple so as to ensure that the financial planning which goes along with an event of this type will go as smoothly as possible.

Prepare a Budget
The first thing which a couple should do prior to purchasing any items for their wedding or reserving any establishments for the special event is to sit down and make a budget. This is beneficial for a few different reasons. First, the couple will be able to mark down how much they are able to spend on the wedding ceremony, wedding reception and any and all other expenses which go along with planning an event of this type. Secondly, by preparing a physical budget, the couple can adequately prepare a list of what types of items they will need to purchase and approximate how much each one will cost.

Save Money by Planning an Off-Season Wedding
For those individuals who do not really mind what time of year they exchange vows, there is a way to save money on the wedding by planning the big day at a time of the year where not every other couple is getting married. Although individuals can and do get married twelve months out of the year, there are certain seasons such as spring and summer where more couples engage in their nuptials. Certain establishments may offer discounts to couples who get married in the “off-season”. Not only will the couple save some money but they may be more likely to have their choice when it comes to booking establishments for the big day and be less likely to have the place filled up on that particular date.

Buy in Bulk
Another financial tip for couples to take advantage of when planning their wedding is to buy items in bulk. This is a distinct possibility with regard to weddings as there are usually quite a few guests who will be attending and one can often receive a discount on wedding related items that are bought in bulk, such as wedding favors in groups of 100 or 200, for example.

A wedding is such a special event that the couple is sure to want the day to go as smoothly as possible. In addition, they are most likely hoping to get as much for their money as possible and make the day as spectacular as it possibly can be. By creating an initial budget, considering getting married during the wedding off-season and attempting to buy wedding related items in bulk, the couple can get the most for the money without having to spend a fortune on the wedding ceremony and reception.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
When Married... with Children debuted on Fox TV on April 5, 1987 (followed by The Tracey Ullman Show a half-hour later), the grungy sitcom became an instant flagship for Rupert Murdoch's upstart network. The program's much-publicized working title, Not the Cosbys (a dismissive reference to the cheerful vitality of Bill Cosby's hugely popular television clan on NBC's The Cosby Show) was a dead giveaway. Married... with Children was going to be a trashier, raunchier, and far more cynical view of the American nuclear family. But it turned out the series actually fell into other caustic-domestic entertainment traditions, notably the Don Ameche and Frances Langford radio comedy series from the 1940s, The Bickersons, and Jackie Gleason's TV classic, The Honeymooners.

The jokes were savage, key relationships were marked by ennui and indifference, and the Bundy family name couldn't help but make one think of America's most notorious, real-life serial killer at the time. Yet the show had a hint of Golden Age Hollywood gloss, a retro-screwball feel that one could detect in the snappy verbal warfare between husband Al Bundy (Ed O'Neill) and wife Peggy (Katey Sagal). The characters, and the show, eschewed sentimentality, which certainly opened the floodgates to comic cynicism but also kept a door ajar for moments of genuine sweetness. A decade later, however, by the time Fox cancelled the increasingly expensive series, Married... with Children's first-season tone would be considerably different, replaced by a stronger reliance on running jokes and character stereotypes, particularly concerning Bundy children Kelly (Christina Applegate) and Bud (David Faustino).

That evolution makes watching Married... with Children's first 13 episodes, once again, quite instructive. Those programs are all on this two-disc set, including the startling pilot, in which Al and Peggy lock horns over marital politics and enlist naive new neighbors Steve (David Garrison) and Marcy (Amanda Bearse) in a battle of the sexes. There's also the classic "Whose Room Is It, Anyway," concerning the Bundys' competition to connive Steve and Marcy into building a recreation room, and "Thinnergy," a very funny piece about a diet that supposedly boosts sexual interest. --Tom Keogh

Wedding Make Up Tips & Advice

You want to look your best on your special day so make sure you plan your make up carefully, well in advance.

Whether you are doing your make up yourself or hiring someone else to do it, try to remember the following:

1. Your make up should be an enhancement of what you normally wear. For example, if you usually go for the natural look, stick to natural colours but slightly stronger. You don't want to try out blue mascara and red lipstick! Remember your fiancé is marrying you, so he should at least recognize you! Saying that you should define your features stronger than what you usually do, so they show up in photographs. You should feel comfortable in the make up you are wearing, this is not the time to try out anything drastic. On your day you don't want to be worrying about your shade of lippy whilst saying your vows.

2. If you are having your make up done professionally, make sure you have a practice run before your big day. A good idea is to have a dress rehearsal and take photos, so you can then check that it will look good.
3. Like a very dear friend of mine who recently got married, she cried the whole way through. Waterproof mascara is a must!
4. You want your make up to last all day. There are some fabulous long lasting make up items around, which will ensure that you don't need to “touch up” during the day. Believe me you won't have time to re-apply your make up.

Make up Tips

1. Starting with concealer and foundation. Be careful about the colour foundation you choose. Whilst you should always go for a match as near as your skin, anything too pale will make you look washed out if you are wearing a white/ivory dress. Try to choose a yellow toned foundation to bring warmth into your face. Alternatively use bronzing powder to give you a bit of colour – if you are wearing a low cut dress remember to sweep it across the chest area so you don't look “two toned”.

2. Whilst there are some lovely “shine” products available to give a dewy complexion, again be very careful where you use them. In photographs it will be easy to mistake the “glow” for sweat – not nice. If you are applying a highlighter, stick to brow bones, cheekbones and a dab in the middle of your lips. If you are wearing a low cut dress add a little on your décolletage. Beware of any makeup that is too sparkly, this can look strange in the photos. Matte is usually best.

3. Pending on what season you are getting married this will also have to be taken into account when planning your makeup. Avoid anything too shiny on your skin if you are getting married in the summer, stick to a coloured lip-gloss but don't wear shine all-over. Light formulas are better as you don't want your makeup melting in the sun. Winter make up can be more dramatic although again it's best to stick to a stronger look of your usual make up, bear in mind if it is a very cold day, you may want a green concealer. Green will counteract any redness to stop you looking like Rudolph!

4. To make your lipstick last all day. First apply a lip primer to give your lips an even surface and rid of any flaky bits. I always apply foundation to the lips and let it dry – this gives a good base. Then line your lips with your lip pencil (which should be the same shade as your lipstick). Then fill in all your lips with the pencil. Finally on top of that apply your lipstick. Blot with a tissue and reapply your lipstick – repeat this twice. Now your lipstick should stay on all day. If it does start to wear off you will have the lip pencil underneath so your lips won't look patchy.

5. Although foundation/concealer should be left to areas where you need it, i.e. around the nose then blended into the cheeks (you don't want to put it everywhere otherwise it will look false), you can also apply to your eyes to give your eye shadow a good base and something to cling on to.

6. Eyebrows - have them professionally shaped before your big day and enhance them with a same colour eyebrow shade. Eyebrows frame your face and it can make a huge difference if you have the professionally shaped – a la Liz Hurley!

7. To make your eyes look bigger and whiter choose dark navy mascara. If you are dark skinned or have brown eyes then black is usually best. Brown mascara can make eyes look tired.

8. To lift your eyes apply a highlighter just below your brow bone. If you have small eyelids, apply a highlighter just in the center of the eyelid and a dark brown shade in the eyelid crease – this will lift your eyes. White/ivory eyeliner in the rim of your eyes also makes them appear brighter, however be careful if you wear contact lenses as your eyes maybe sensitive. To make your eyes look more wide set blend the highlighter in the inner corner of your eyes.

9. For a natural flush apply a light natural pink shade onto the apples of your cheeks – don't go to harsh, especially if you are drinking which can give you a natural flush look without the blush.

Finally remember on your big day to have the following to hand.

* Cotton buds, to wipe away any smudges under the eyes
* Your lippy, should you need a touch up.
* Some translucent powder to blot away any sweaty patches
* Breath freshener (you will be doing lots of kissing – alcohol breath is not very attractive!)
* Contact lens solution – if you wear them.
* Small phial of your perfume to keep you smelling gorgeous – which you will be!
* And your man of course!!!

10 Ways to Invest in Your Marriage

In today's world there are so many worries. Recently, we have been told about the Swine Flu and how important it is to wash our hands, cover our mouths when we cough, take more vitamin C as some of the precautions that may protect us from getting the flu. Weekly there's some new awfulness to consider like the Wall Street financial breakdown, job losses, 401k losses, home devaluation, high gasoline prices, school violence, lack of health insurance, global warming, bankruptcies of companies to big to fail and so forth. It appears that many things are falling apart. Change is occurring without your input.

One of the best ways to deal with uncertainty is to invest in your relationships especially your marriage. A healthy relationship will pay dividends year round and most especially during hard times the benefits will be substantial. Relationships are investments that are worthy of our time and effort. As a marriage partner you can reinvest your dividends or take a loss. Dividends are trust, warmth, safety and love. Losses are distrust, fear, anger, apathy and jealousy. Marriages, like investments, need our attention on a regular basis not just in time of a crisis. Ten ways to invest into your marriage are:

1. Be open to change. Change is something that cannot be avoided. Learn to embrace it by focusing on "what is" rather than on "what should be".

2. Learn to listen. Real listening is based on attention. It is important to take the time required and give your full attention to your partner. If you find you are too distracted then say so and establish another time that will work for both of you.

3. Be open to new ways of being together. It is easy to do the same activities week after week especially if you are raising children and have a demanding job. Consider doing different activities as a couple as a way to add zest to your relationship.

4. Take care of yourself. The ability to love another person is based on how well you care for yourself.

5. Be grateful, each day, for one thing about your companion. Accent the positive rather than the negative. Your relationship
will thrive.

6. Be generous. Difficulties arise when the focus is exclusively on what is wrong in the relationship. Remember your spouse, like you, is doing their best.

7. Ask for support. Your spouse is not a mind reader. Let your spouse know how you want to be supported.

8. Risk being vulnerable. Be willing to let your spouse know how you feel rather than pretend or avoid your feelings.

9. Make time for each other. Scheduling time together, on a weekly basis, will alleviate stress in your marriage.

10. Learn to respond to each other rather than react. Reacting is an impulsive act. While reacting may provide immediate relief, it will often have long-term negative consequences.

Heidi Montag: ‘We Will Be Married For Ever and Ever and Ever!’

Heidi Montag has opened up in a new interview about what married life is like when you’re eternally bound to a man with a flesh-colored beard.

“It’s real love,” Heidi told “Extra” in an interview airing Thursday (May 7). “And we will be married forever and ever and ever!”

Heidi has taken a huge step toward showing everyone that this is the real deal. “I legally changed my name to Pratt. … I’m very excited,” she gushed. Spencer, who calls married life “amazing,” added, “We’re going to the DMV and we’re getting the license, and I’m framing it.”
Heidi, who wore a Monique Lhullier gown to the wedding in Pasadena, California, on April 24, said that moments before they married, she knew she had made the right decision. “I was just sitting there in my dress, like, ‘I am really about to marry the most amazing man, and this is such a great experience.’ ”

She said the dress was the one she had always wanted. “I thought about my dress for years. I knew everything I wanted,” she said. “I knew I wanted a strapless, gorgeous, big, flowy, princess, fun, amazing dress, and that’s what I had. I wanted it to be really classic but young and fun and fresh. I felt like a princess, and it was perfect.”

She is really into her dress! And what she was thinking while wearing the dress. Which is something I’ve wondered too.

She may not realize it but this interview confirms that their whole Mexican wedding drama last December was a planned hoax. Unfortunately it looks like there’s no chance of fakery this time, guys. Prepare the bomb shelter for when they decide to procreate, most likely in time for the Season Six finale.
